During my days as young lass, i had
swelling dreams of becoming the lady whom the crown fits. I scampered from
audition to audition, from one beauty contest to another all because of the
unquenchable enthusiasm i had to become an Ambassador and a cervical cancer
awareness campaign leader
I've heard and seen people die of different
cancer diseases, I’ve read papers, watched TV and have seen groups campaign for
the total eradication of these deadly diseases lurking around human race, hence
the passion to join this fight encompassed me.
I tried many possible platforms
within my reach, but all to no avail. I have always desired to be a role model
to many, dreamt of becoming that woman that is worthy of emulation, someone
from whom to seek council. My hopes were dashing. Frustration was beginning to
set in. The moderators and event owners turned blind eye to my flairs during
each contest, they couldn't pay heed to my natural inclinations. I cradled
every miniature opportunity i get meticulously. The intensive propensity
inculcated in me was dwindling. It was as though winds were against my
progress. Time wasn't becoming friendly to me anymore, the clock was ticking
fast, age wasn't on my side either. Then i met and fell head over heels in love
with my beau, Kevin.
Kevin was a young vibrant man pulsating with
life and vigor, with bigger dreams and hopes. He never stopped working hard. He
tutored me. He stood by me and believed in my dreams. He became my succor, my
solace in times of solitude, my inspiration. Always offers me his tireless
shoulders to cry on in times of distress. I may not have accomplished the dream
i crave for, which was to be a beauty queen, but i have a wonderful, dedicated
and long-suffering man who is ever ready to work the lonely miles with me.
A year after our courtship, we were joined together in holy matrimony. I won the
queen of his heart and his home. His diadem perfectly fitted on my head,
implying rank of dignity and preeminence. I couldn't have asked for more.
Marrying Kevin was the best beauty contest i unregretful signed up for. We
started raising kids…

Years later, Kevin and I had three more kids as lovely and
lively as Karen. Karen became a caring big sister to her younger siblings.
She's very prudential and articulate in carrying out her duties. Karen always
cuddle them and wrap them up with extreme conscientiousness that awes me. She
knows what to do all the time even without an adult supervision…A mother in the
making.
When Karen emerged 21 years of age,
she was deeply engrossed to participate for one of the biggest and famous
beauty contest of our time; QUEEN OF EMERALD NIGERIA – a beauty pageant which is set to emerge beauty queens whose prior
objective is to champion the fight against cervical cancer in Nigeria and
beyond ,thus becoming an International Cervical cancer Ambassador.
Karen grew up with the same passion
her mother had, the passion to be a campaigner and an Ambassador for cervical
cancer. Unlike her mum, she won not just the crown but the heart of many. And
today, she has gone places within and outside Nigeria with the sponsorship of
both the organizers and international Cervical Cancer organizations to spread
the word by raising awareness by setting up cervical awareness programmes in both
secondary and tertiary institutions, market places and cooperate establishments.
